Our Story
From a father-and-son handyman shop in Bristol to a home improvement franchise built for owners.

In 2002, Brad Fluke was a welder in California raising a family when his father, Tom, called with an idea. Come home to Bristol, VA. Start a small handyman business. Do the jobs other contractors ignored, and do them right.
That call became Tom’s Honey Do Service. Brad moved his family east. Father and son knocked on doors, booked work, and built a reputation on showing up, finishing the job, and treating every home like it belonged to a neighbor. Demand outgrew the two of them. Crews were hired. The company became The Honey Do Service, Inc.
When the housing market collapsed in 2008, many contractors stalled. Homeowners stayed put and fixed what they had. Honey Do stayed busy. That resilience is why Brad opened the model to franchise owners through Honey Do Franchising Group: a proven home improvement system, exclusive territories, and coaching from people who still run the work.
Today the brand is a network of locally owned locations, not a corporate chain. The values have not changed: integrity, reliability, and craftsmanship. If you are looking at a remodeling or handyman franchise, this is the story behind the system you would own.
The Honey Do Service Timeline
Two decades of building a home improvement franchise the same way we build a job: one solid step at a time.

2002
A father, a son, and a Bristol startup
Tom’s Honey Do Service begins as a father-and-son handyman business in the Bristol, Virginia and Tennessee community. Brad and Tom start by knocking on doors and taking the work other contractors would not, with one standard: do it right, first time.

2004
The Honey Do Service, Inc. is born
The company is renamed The Honey Do Service, Inc. and expands into neighboring Tri-Cities markets such as Johnson City and Kingsport, TN. Quality workmanship and reliable service turn a local shop into a growing home improvement brand.

2008
Tom hits the road
The first fully wrapped Honey Do truck goes into service. Tom, our mascot, becomes the face neighbors recognize on the street, a simple branding move that still helps the brand stand out in the neighborhoods we serve.

2008
Honey Do Franchising Group is founded
While the housing market falls, Honey Do stays busy remodeling and repairing homes people already own. Brad forms Honey Do Franchising Group so other owners can run the same high-volume home improvement model in new markets.

2009
The first franchise owner comes on board
The first Honey Do franchise is awarded in Kingsport, Tennessee. That sale turns a family company into a franchise system, with coaching, branding, and operations built for owner-operators.

2012
Growth beyond the Tri-Cities
The Honey Do Service, Inc. expands into additional states, including Virginia and Texas. New owners carry the same promise into new communities: professional remodeling, repair, and maintenance homeowners can trust.

2014-2017
The franchise model earns recognition
Honey Do Franchising Group begins receiving industry awards for its franchise system. The recognition from Franchise Gator, Remodeling Big 50 and Franchise Connect, reflects what owners already see on the ground: a model built for demand that holds up when the economy shifts.

2019
A Bristol landmark becomes a Honey Do project
Honey Do Franchising Group purchases the E.W. King House, a historic Bristol landmark that had spent decades in disrepair. Saving the building is both a community project and a public proof of what Honey Do craftsmen can do.

2020
Owners gather in Asheville
The first Honey Do Owners Conference is held in Asheville, North Carolina. Franchise owners meet in one place to share what is working, tighten operations, and stay connected as a network, not a collection of isolated shops.

2022
E.W. King House restoration is complete
After years of work by The Honey Do Service, Inc. master craftsmen, the restored E.W. King House opens as a finished landmark. The transformation earns local awards and acclaim, and it gives prospects a building they can walk through instead of a brochure claim about workmanship.

2026
The next territories are open
The Honey Do Service, Inc. continues to expand into new markets with the same founding idea: be the most trusted home improvement company in town. If that is the business you want to own, we should talk.
